Japanese Spider Crabs Video

January 29th, 2008

Today’s scary animal feature – Japanese Spider Crabs. I have a YouTube video to share with you. The Japanese Spider Crabs are truly amazing animals. You can see them in sea worlds and aquariums around the world, most of which will have leg span of about two feet, but in nature the leg span of Japanese Spider Crabs can get up to twelve (12) feet. That’s pretty massive – it’s a bloody crab we’re talking about. Japanese Spider Crabs are the largest crabs in the world. Even with the leg spread of 12 feet, the actual body of a Japanese Spider Crab is only about one foot long. A full grown Japanese Spider Crab can weigh up to 45 pounds. The Japanese Spider Crabs live deep in the waters off the coast of Japan and they do best in depths of about 1000 feet. Their diet consists of smaller shell fish or whatever they can find during their explorations of the bottom of the ocean. Scientists estimate that Japanese Spider Crabs can live over 100 years in their natural habitat; however this age has not been proven 100%.
