Copenhagen Accord

Copenhagen Accord

By now we all know that the climate change summit held in Denmark’s Copenhagen will have yielded no results. The environment is getting butt-effed and even though it’s almost too late, nothing’s gonna get done. Or not much at least. The leaders of our nations – all of them down to the last one have been a major let down throughout the COP15 (the fifteenth Conference of the Parties), ending the climate change talks with lame Copenhagen Accord. This five page document is nothing more than a political statement. Copenhagen Accord is not a legally binding agreement for any country, which means none of national parliaments must ratify it. What’s even more ridiculous – Copenhagen Accord was not even voted on.

Copenhagen Accord is not a solution. It’s not a call to action, it’s a call to delay. A delay to solutions of such pressing issues as destruction of our own planet. We have slapped the Mother Nature in the face and she’s gonna slap us back when the times comes. We have let future generations down. Heck, we have even let our own, forseeable future down.

I took part in 350.org Global Day of Climate Action movement on October 24, 2009 in Angkor Wat, Cambodia. I was proud to have landed my hand towards increase of awareness and added my voice towards call for immediate action. Copenhagen Accord is not what I had expected from the climate change conference. Our leaders have disappointed us. Side deals such as Copenhagen Accord are a joke. It was a quickly put together document done on Friday evening by world’s biggest polluters so there is at least something to show after two weeks in Compenhagen. What a let-down, what a FAIL!
