Small World Photomicrography Competition 2010 Winning Photographs

The Small World Photomicrography Competition is a photography contest sponsored by Nikon. The aim of Small World Photomicrography Competition is to showcase life as it is seen though the light microscope.

Images captured by Photomicrography enthusiasts reveal in great detail what is not normally visible to a naked eye. The primary use of Photomicrography is to assist in scientific advances but when properly color enhanced, the outcomes are simply spectacular to look at. You may remember the awesomeness we had on Beer Steak Blog before when I posted the microscopic images from the inside of the human body.

The image of a 100x enlarged Anopheles Gambiae (mosquito) heart captured by Jonas King using the Fluorescence Microscopy seen in the gallery below became the winning photograph of the 2010 Small World Photomicrography Competition. You can see the rest of the entries on http://www.nikonsmallworld.com/gallery/year/2010/1
