Chemical Ali Execution Carried Out – Hanged Until Death in Iraq
January 25th, 2010Chemical Ali whose real name is Ali Hassan al-Majid was executed by hanging till death in Baghdad, Iraq government spokesperson Ali al-Dabbagh confirmed today. Chemical Ali Execution comes six and a half years after his arrest in August of 2003 – just five months after US terrorists invaded Iraq.
Chemical Ali was found guilty of 13 counts of killings and genocide for which he was sentenced to death. Ali Hassan al-Majid was Saddam Hussein’s henchmen who has earned his “Chemical Ali” name after the 1988 gas attack on Halabja during which Iraqi jets sprayed the village with mustard gas and the nerve agents VX, Sarin and Tabun for 5 hours. About 5000 people are believed to have died in the attack.
Chemical Ali was first sentenced to death by hanging in June 2007 for taking part in ethnic Kurds cleansing in 1988. He was subsequently sentenced to death again in December 2008 for participation in violent crush of the Shia revolt in 1991. Then in March 2009 he was sentenced to death yet again for killings of Shia Muslims in the Sadr City district of Baghdad in 1999.
Standing proud and tall, Chemical Ali refused to express remorse during his trials and execution claiming that his actions were geared towards greater security of Iraq. Chemical Ali was sentenced by The Iraqi High Tribunal, the same body that sentenced Saddam Hussein to death by hanging.
