Mickey Goodwin Bludgeoned to Death in his Home

Mickey Goodwin – 50 year old boxing legend and the winner of The Golden Gloves from 1975 was bludgeoned to death in his home. Melvindale police confirmed that dead body of Mickey Goodwin was discovered at about 5pm inside a home on Ruth Street in Melvindale where he lived with his mother.

After ending his career of a professional boxer, Mickey Goodwin went to become a boxing trainer at Kronk Gym in Detroit. His professional boxing record stands at 42-2-1, with 28 wins by KO, however he never won a championship belt.

The police have made no arrests, but are asking for citizens who may have witnessed anything to give them a call. This is pretty sad – bludgeoned to death in his own home? Damn… RIP Mickey Goodwin :(

Giselle Salandy - Female Boxer from Trinidad will Remain Undefeated

Giselle Salandy is a female boxing champion from Trinidad and Tobago. If she punched me in the mug, I’d cry for three days.

Giselle Salandy was born in on January 25, 1987 in Siparia and started boxing when she was 11. I was serious when I said I’d cry for three days if she delivered a punch to my gut. Giselle had a successful boxing career going for her having won a total of eight international boxing titles, including the most prestigious female boxing championships, such as World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA) and Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA).

Giselle Salandy defended her World Boxing Council title last Boxing Day against Yahaira Hernandez from Dominican Republic moving her win count up to 17. During her professional boxing career, Giselle Salandy lost a grand total of zero (none, not one) fight. She was in it for the winning and win she did. Each time.

Sadly, Giselle Salandy will remain undefeated forever, her professional boxing record unchanged. Following bad car crash earlier today on the Beetham Highway in Trinidad, Giselle Salandy sustained severe bodily trauma and that claimed the life of this 21 year old boxing sensation.

Reports from Trinidad and Tobago indicate that Giselle Salandy was driving to Port of Spain in a Toyota Yaris (tiny vehicle). There was another passenger in the car with her – Trinidad and Tobago female football player Tamar Watson. At around 7am on January 4, 2009 the vehicle crashed into a concrete post on a side of the road on the outskirts of Port of Spain. Giselle Salandy and Tamar Watson were rushed to the hospital, but despite all efforts of the medical team to revive the boxing champion, she succumbed to her injuries one and a half hour after the car crash. Tamar Watson is still undergoing surgery treatment.

RIP Giselle Salandy :(

Mexican Boxer Daniel Aguillón Dies after Knock-Out by Alejandro Sanabria (video)

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Mexican Boxer Daniel Aguillón

This is pretty crazy. Young Mexican featherweight boxer Daniel Aguillón was fighting a match against Alejandro Sanabria, also from Mexico on October 15, 2008 in Polanco, Mexico. In 12th round, 40 seconds before the end of the super featherweight bout for the Central American title, Alejandro Sanabria knocked out Daniel Aguillón with a brutal punch to the jaw and Daniel fell on the ring floor unconscious. Medics took him to the hospital, but after 5 days in a coma, Daniel Aguillón was pronounced dead. He was 24 year old :(

During his professional boxing career, Daniel Aguillón went through several matches and his score was 16-4-2. Nine of sixteen won matches were won by knock out. I like watching boxing (or any martial art for that matter) but don’t consider myself an expert. I don’t however think boxers consider dying in the ring any form of great way of passing. I think it’s terrible for any boxer to die as direct result of a boxing fight. If I was to guess, I’d think boxers would want to put on a few years of boxing, make themselves some money and retire early on before there’s any bad damage done to their brain and hopefully their accomplishments would have left the legacy so their name is forever connected with boxing.

The video of the knock out that killed Daniel Aguillón is below. 24 year old is too young to go. Daniel didn’t have a chance to make a big name for himself in boxing, but let’s hope boxing world will not forget him. I wouldn’t be surprised if Alejandro Sanabria – a guy who delivered the punch that killed Daniel Aguillón called it quits and left the ring for good. I don’t know how I would deal with death of a fellow sportsman.
