French Designer Julien Berthier is sailing around the world in a boat that looks as if it was sinking. Strangely named “Love Love” the sinking boat was created by Julien Berthier in 2007 and is considered to be one of his weirdest artworks to date.

When asked how he built Love Love, Julien Berthier said that he simply took a regular sailboat and cut it in half. The open space the cut created was then sealed with fibreglass and the submerged part fitted with two boat motors making for a reasonably safe and fully functional boat.

Julien Berthier maintains that Love Love is perfectly manoeuvrable in most conditions and despite its capsizing look, it delivers the same experience one would expect from a regular, non sinking sailboat.

That however changes little on the fact that Love Love looks like a sinking boat to everyone else who sees it which has already put several people, including coast guards on high alert. The confusing look on the faces of sailors who pass by Love Love must be precious. They see a sinking boat, yet its master is calmly sitting atop of it, enjoying the moment like it’s his last.

I think the creation of a sinking boat was a brilliant idea on behalf of Julien Berthier. Sinking of a ship is a dramatic moment and those few seconds just before it goes down into the Davey Jones’ Locker last… well, only a few seconds. Freezing that jaw dropping moment to make it last forever was truly an idea worthy of a genius. I applaud Julien Berthier for his amazing creation.

Love Lane can be seen sailing many harbours of the world. It’s already gone through Normandy in France and Canary Wharf in London. If you live in a coastal area, keep your eyes open. If you luck out, you might get to spot the sinking boat of Julien Berthier. The sinking boat that never really sinks.

When huge Chinese freightliner Shinyo Sawako collided with Chinese fishing boat Lurongyu 2177 off Kyushu Island on Sunday, April 13, 2008, lives of 3 men were lost and another 13 went missing. Frightening moment just before collision of two ships was captured on camera and I’m now sharing this extraordinary photo with you.

Workers from the southern port of Kagoshima city on Japan’s Kyushu island confirmed that three lives were lost in the collision of the ships. Freighter Shinyo Sawako was a vessel owned by Hong Kong Special Administration Region, while the fishing boat Lurongyu 2177 belonged to the fishing company from Chinese mainland. The ships collided some 350 km south of Takarajima Island – one of the Tokara chain of islands south of Kyushu, Japan.

Much larger in size, freightliner Shinyo Sawako caused irreversible damage to Lurongyu 2177 which sank almost instantly. 18 crew members fell into the wild ocean waters of which only 2 were rescued. The photo capturing this horrifying moment is above.

Collisions of navy vessels are the tits. Multimillion dollar monsters equipped with technology we the regular folk don’t even know exists run into each other in vast open waters – got to love that. The collision of two U.S. Navy vessels USS New Orleans and USS Hartford which occured earlier today in the Strait of Hormuz was at least not as bad as collision of Nuclear Subs of British and French Armies in the Atlantic, cause these guys had an entire Atlantic ocean for themselves and managed to collide. Strait of Hormuz isn’t as vast, but still. The collisions involving nuclear powered submarines are getting off the hand. How long till one gets in a collision strong enough to detonate nuclear warheads it carries?

USS Hartford

USS Hartford (SSN 768) is a nuclear powered submarine of the US Navy.

USS New Orleans

USS New Orleans (LPD 18) is an amphibious ship.

Both USS Hartford and USS New Orleans were going in the same direction in the Strait of Hormuz when a submarine crashed into the ship. Since subs are stronger built, USS Hartford suffered no damage to the nuclear propulsion system. USS New Orleans however suffered a ruptured fuel tank resulting in 25,000 gallons of diesel fuel being spilled in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. 15 crew members from USS Hartford reportedly suffered minor injuries and were returned to duty after check up by the physician.

Strait of Hormuz

Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway between Iran and Arabian Peninsula. It’s one of the most trafficked bodies of water when it comes to commercial tankers carrying oil. With fuel spillage, US Navy basically spilled oil right in the frontyard of Iran. What that means is hard to tell at the moment.
